Last minute appeal to stop LTNs in East Oxford

Last minute appeals were made on Monday before this week’s city council election to stop the LTNs being introduced in East Oxford.

On Monday 2nd May a street meeting was held in Donnington Ward on the corner of Golden Road and Howard Street where barriers are due to be installed. Speakers included Sajjad Malik Oxford City Councillor for Temple Cowley, who warned that Oxford would become completely divided if the barriers and bus gates go ahead and that public transport was inadequate. Ping Low who runs the Goldfish Bowl in Magdalen Road warned of the impact on local business and the difficulties the barriers would make for customers and suppliers.

A small counter demonstration in support of LTNs took place on the other side of the road – leading to some well managed and civil exchanges of views!
