I launched my campaign this weekend to provide a real choice to residents, giving a voice to the majority who opposed the LTNs in the consultation but who also want social justice and a pollution free and safe ward.
I have lived in St Mary’s for more than 40 years enjoying our shared sense of community and diversity.
These values are put at risk by divisive policies which are opposed by local people.
“Low Traffic Neighbourhood” road closures will cause gridlock and export pollution to our neighbours. They threaten local shops and businesses at the very moment they most need our support.
I strongly believe that we need to act to make our roads safer and quieter – and will work alongside all others who share these aims.
I have tried to change Labour policy from the inside, but sadly, the political parties representing our area are in the grip of a dogmatic “one size fits all” policy and refuse to consider alternatives.
I worked at the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals for more than 20 years where many people rely on their cars to work and function.
We need supportive policies for those who can cycle, walk and use public transport. Instead we have cuts to bus services and a failure to engage with people’s real lives.
Our campaign will explore effective alternatives to road closures – and how we can work together to make a difference.
I am standing to provide a real choice to residents, giving a voice to the majority who opposed the LTNs in the consultation but also want social justice and a pollution free and safe ward. I back fair enforcement of rules to address problems of noise, parking, and rubbish strewn streets and am campaigning for the council to prioritise homes for key workers and for planning that sustains diversity in our neighbourhood. I will work with local groups tackling issues of poverty to highlight the causes of poverty and ensure that people do not go hungry.
In the coming weeks I shall be calling on everyone in St Mary's ward to introduce myself and my campaign. In the meantime if you would like to support us, volunteer, canvas or help leafletting, please get in touch.
